All humans are sacred beings.
During Autumn 2008, our staff participated in training on "The Wakanheza Project."
"Wakanheza" is the Dakota Indian word for child; in English its translation is "Sacred Being". In Saint Paul and Ramsey County, and in communities across Minnesota and the United States, the power of the word Wakanheza has been combined with simple principles and practices that change the way we act toward children, young people, families and each other.
As part of this training, our staff learned and practiced Wakanheza principles for handling difficult situations and letting go of judgment. We learned the importance of a welcoming environment and its effects on behavior. We learned that we always have more to learn.
The Wakanheza Project is offered as part of "The Initiative for Violence-Free Families and Communities in Ramsey County." For more information, call 651-266-2597, or read more online.
