Current volunteer opportunities:
Front desk volunteer: Greets arriving guests and helps them complete intake form. Answers incoming phone calls, takes messages, and makes copies of documents. One front desk volunteer is needed each day from eight to five during the weekdays (half day shifts are available). For consistency, we request the volunteer sign up for the same day or shift each week for at least one month.
Children's activity volunteer: Reads to pre-school children and participates in various craft activities. Must enjoy the high energy levels associated with the children we serve. Volunteers are needed each weekday from 1:30 - 5 p.m.
Weekday meal service volunteer: Assists The Family Place cook in serving the meal, setting tables, serving desserts, sharing the meal with the guests and cleaning up. One volunteer is needed each weekday. The lunchtime commitment is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The dinner time commitment is from 3:30 - 6:00 p.m
Weekend meal service teams: Teams of volunteers provide the food, cook and serve the meal, eat with the families and then clean up after the meal is over. A team's commitment is to spend about three hours to prepare and serve the meal along with the donation of food for up to 40 people. A team is composed of at least 5 adult members and may include older children as well. Dinner is served family-style at 4:30pm on Saturdays and Sundays. The weekend Meal service schedule is issued quarterly and updated weekly. Teams can serve up to a maximum of once per month or as infrequently as they wish.
